Coal mining on the Ebberg near Dortmund has a long history. An old tunnel was reactivated there by the Louisenglück union as early as 1778. In 1783, the mining company Gewerkschaft Glücksfortgang opened up the Sengsbank seam and mining continued eastwards towards Kückshausen1. However, mining was stopped in 1823 because it was deemed unworthy of construction. The Ebberg is now a nature reserve and is home to the Nature Friends House, which was built in 1928. The area was established around a former quarry in which Ruhr sandstone was mined for railway construction1. Anyone who drives the full course with all the ramps should have the appropriate driving skills and the necessary respect. Otherwise, it's better to skip it.

Good place to take a break, especially for those coming up from the Ruhr Valley.

One of the most beautiful sections on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path. Diagonally opposite the mouth of the Lenne, stop for a ☕️ and enjoy the view.

There is something to discover here in every season. I can recommend forest tours with the woodruffs.
