Great cycle path along the Iller river

Agricultural road between Lauben and Egg an der Günz with good asphalt. Not a cycle path as described by the original author.

Good alternative to the main road through Eisenburg. Hardly any traffic and not so steep.

The weir upstream is being redesigned, and there will be quiet riverside areas with swimming spots. This could be completed by 2025. There is still a bicycle diversion sign in the direction of Heimertingen.

Illertissen was first mentioned in documents in 954 AD. The reason was the so-called Peace of Tussa, which was not entirely insignificant for the history of the region and even Germany. The later King Otto I is said to have passed over his first-born son Liudolf as successor, which is why there was a rift between father and son in 953 AD. The situation escalated and in 954 Otto and Liudolf faced each other on the Iller after the latter had taken Regensburg together with Arnulf, a son of the Duke of Bavaria who had died a year earlier. The Bishop Ulrich from Augsburg and the Bishop Hartbert from Chur rushed to the scene and mediated between the two parties. Reconciliation took place in the castle at Tussa, without which history would probably be different today. As a result of the reconciliation, the two armies joined forces and contributed to the victory over the invading Hungarians at the Battle of Lechfeld in front of Augsburg in 955 AD.

Can be driven quickly to very quickly. Be careful, there are some places where visibility is not optimal. Caution is advised.

Ideal for driving on Sundays and public holidays. There is little traffic and very good asphalt.

From the town hall you have a beautiful view of the castle, which today houses, among other things, the Bavarian Bee Museum. By the way, there is another bee museum in Buschow in the Havelland district (Brandenburg).
