The Wuhlheide is an urban forest area located in the Berlin districts of Oberschöneweide and Köpenick. In addition to the former Wuhlheide public park, it also includes the leisure and recreation center (FEZ), the Wuhlheide Innovation Park (IPW) commercial area, the Oberschöneweide forest cemetery and other large forest areas to the east and west of the two parks.

The former pioneer railway is still actively supported by many students in its operations. They learn everything that goes into operating the railway, from train production to maintenance. A steam locomotive is also used on special occasions, such as St. Nicholas Day. A beautiful route in the north from the Wuhlheidr S-Bahn station, the FEZ, the bathing lake, the House for Nature and the Environment, and the road along the Wuhlheidr in the south are connected in the almost entirely wooded area.

Especially nice in Summer to hide from the sun. Air is much cooler on the way through the woods.

With the rapid population growth in Oberschöneweide at the beginning of the 20th century, suitable recreational areas became increasingly urgent. When the Greater Berlin Association acquired Wuhlheide in 1911 for drinking water production, it was obliged to preserve the forest and create a park. For the project approved in 1922, garden director Ernst Harrich presented detailed plans for the garden architecture in 1924, in which garden inspector Karl Hennig was also involved. Ernst Harrich designed a combined forest and public park that was intended, among other things, to convey an identification with the local flora and fauna. When designing the facility, he took the topography of the site as a guide. The oak frame, built in the 18th century, formed the central axis and the main path of the public park. To the north of this are the majority of the play and sports facilities as well as themed gardens, while the toboggan run and hedge garden are located to the southwest of the Grosser Sternplatz. The park began to decay with the Second World War. A barracks camp for forced laborers, anti-aircraft positions and an air raid shelter were built. After 1945, large areas of the park were converted into a barracks area for the Soviet armed forces in Germany, and in 1950 the Pioneer Park (now FEZ) was built in the eastern part, named after the chairman of the KPD Ernst Thälmann.
