The traffic was opened on December 20, 2016 after a short speech by State Secretary for Transport Jens-Holger Kirchner.[1] Initially only four lanes were available because the northern footpath and cycle path could only be installed after the temporary bridges had been dismantled. This work was completed at the end of December 2017.[44] After the temporary bridges have been expanded and their access roads demolished, a second staircase will be built to the Havel towards the city center.
