The Tankumsee lake was created by excavation during the construction of the Elbe Lateral Canal. This hideous underpass isn't a highlight for me personally, but if you like it... it certainly blows so many people away that the smelly little tunnel, complete with its accompanying signpost, has been named a highlight of a bike tour three times (!) 😁

What Endurancer says: It can get extremely crowded here, especially during the summer holidays. Since pedestrians and cyclists share a path, it quickly becomes annoying for everyone. The route around the lake is great – for me, it's best between November and March, when it's reliably empty.
