The artificially constructed Lend Canal runs 4 km from the eastern shore of Lake Wörthersee near Maria Loretto Palace to the Lend Harbor west of Klagenfurt's city center. Today, the Lend Harbor is idyllic and tranquil, but it used to be extremely busy. From 1527 onward, the canal no longer served to supply water to the city moat, but instead was used to deliver goods from the lake and sell them here at the harbor. Today, it is a popular local recreation area, and an idyllic walking path and a cycle path run along the Lend River.
