To restore the passage of fish and other aquatic life, a bypass channel – the so-called "New Vechte" – was created. This channel acts like a natural, small stream and bypasses the high weir.

💒 Haus Loreto is a long-established institution in the hamlet of Haltern, which belongs to the Leer district of the town of Horstmar. It is idyllically situated in a green setting between Leer and Steinfurt and is run by the religious order of the Sisters of Divine Providence.
