After the construction of the Kiel Canal, the new inland port on the canal replaced the "Old Port". However, it remained the home port for fishing boats for a long time. These later sought out other ports, including Büsum, Friedrichskoog and Cuxhaven. Since 1968, the image of the "Old Port" has been dominated exclusively by sailing and motor boats.
