Château de Bois Sir Âme is a ruined castle built at the end of the 14th century and the beginning of the 15th century by Jacquelin Trousseau, a wealthy merchant and courtier of Jean de Berry, brother of King Charles V. The castle was frequented by the king Charles VII, who loved spending time there with his mistress and advisor, Agnès Sorel. He also organized lavish parties and diplomatic meetings there. The castle is today protected as a historic monument, but it is in a state of disrepair and is only accessible on foot. You can explore the remains of the fortifications, towers, chapel and moat, and imagine the splendor and intrigue that once reigned here. The Bruère-Allichamps column is a Roman landmark dating from the 3rd century. This ancient stone, reused as a sarcophagus in the Middle Ages, would mark the geographical center of France, according to the calculations of the 19th century geographer Adolphe Joanne. The column is located in the village of Bruère-Allichamps, at the intersection of two roads, and is surrounded by a small park with a picnic area.
