ドゥー・ラフ・バレーを通る道は、交通量の少ない静かで狭いルートで、暗い湖と周囲の山腹の広大な眺めを十分に楽しむことができます。湖畔には、水、光、風景が美しく調和する写真映えする場所がいくつかあります。この区間は、デルフィ・バレー、ドゥーラフ・パスへの登り、そして控えめな1849年の記念碑に論理的につながっており、この区間全体をルート全体で最も印象的な区間の1つにしています。

Be sure to use the Greenway instead of the N59 expressway on this section! This is a beautiful stretch through forests and meadows.

Aasleagh Falls is a pretty waterfall not far from Leenaun. It's set in a typically beautiful and mountainous Connemara landscape, where the Erriff River empties into the Killary Fjord. The intriguingly named Devilsmother rises to the east, while Ben Gorm rises to the west. This part of the Western Way can be prone to flooding. If the trail is impassable, the N59 can be used instead.

The trail features archaeological sites such as megalithic tombs and the Deserted Village, remnants of nearly 100 stone cottages abandoned after the Great Famine.

Achill Sound is the anglicised version, the Irish and official name of the town is Gob an Choire. This is the first settlement you reach after crossing the bridge onto Achill Island. It serves as a gateway to the island and is a good spot to resupply on a long bike ride. It can also serve as a base for exploring this beautiful island.
