A very beautiful church

Still closed in July 2025!!! It'll probably last until at least December 2025😔. Then the next cycling season will be over. Unbelievable.

Construction of the Church of the Holy Cross began in 1914 and was interrupted during the First World War. The church, built in the Neo-Romanesque style, was finally consecrated in 1922. A special feature concerns the current Forgiveness Bell, cast in 1934: During an inspection of church bells from the Nazi era by the Hanover Regional Church, it was discovered that the large Schweringen bell bore a swastika and a nationalist inscription. The bell was deconsecrated and artistically redesigned. Traces of the dark past were preserved, and a verse was engraved above the Nazi inscription: "What good will it do a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his soul?" Magnificent grounds of the old manor.

The beautiful grounds of the old manor house are home to a friendly farm dog. Access will be somewhat difficult in spring 2025 due to road construction. However, it's worth taking a tour of the estate.
