Saint Giuseppe, the foster father of Jesus Christ, was chosen as the patron saint of this church. Like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments. Joseph came from the House of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by trade and the betrothed of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Saint Joseph's feast day in the calendar of saints is March 19th; the church also celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker" on May 1st.

The Novellara Valleys, a marshy but reclaimed area between the municipalities of Reggiolo, Guastalla and Novellara, extend for approximately 2000 hectares between the Enza and Crostolo rivers. There is a very rich endemic biodiversity.

A beautiful place to stop for a break in the Novellara and Reggiolo Valleys. La Cà dal Vigliac (in Italian Casa del Vigliacco, also referred to as old sewer), so called from the nickname of the gamekeeper who lived there and who also worked as a fisherman. His activity consisted of checking the "burghin" or "bartavel", i.e. the traps for catching fish, which were lowered in the evening and then taken up again the following morning; this fisherman often went around with his horse and rifle along the bank to check that other fishermen did not steal his pots. But it is said that he had the habit of going and stealing other people's pots: for this reason I was called "The Coward".

Between the 1930s and the 1950s in the "Valli" area, there were four "professional" fishermen, who had rented as many sections of the reclamation canal from the "Magistrate"; one from the Bettolino bridge, where the "Luca toll booth" was, up to the Fiuma bridge; yet another from the “della Luca” bridge to the Bruciati bridge on Bondeno; along the embankment stood the "Casa del Vigliacco" (still existing today, also referred to as the "old key"), so called from the name of the "gamekeeper" who lived there and who also worked as a fisherman; he had a concession for fishing in the stretch from the “Luca” bridge to the Bruciati bridge; his activity consisted of controlling the "burghin" or "bartavel", or traps, for catching fish, which were lowered in the evening, to then be taken up again the following morning; this fisherman often went around with his horse and rifle along the bank to check that other fishermen did not steal his pots. The Collina degli Aironi is a strange anomaly of our flat territory. It is an old accumulation of waste, which over time has become a pleasant hill, now protected. From here passes a short but fun single track for mtb.
