Many Italian churches are dedicated to the Mother of God Mary and thus have a "SANTA MARIA" (sometimes increased to "SANTISSIMA") in their name. This church in Staletti has the addition "IMMACOLATA", so it is dedicated to the "Immaculate Conception" of the Mother of God. This term, which today may sound a bit theoretical and difficult to understand, is intended to say that the Mother of God was freed from the beginning by the grace of God from the burden of original sin - which otherwise every human being carries within themselves. This meant that when the archangel later announced to her in Nazareth that she would give birth to the Son of God, she was willing to answer YES of her own free will. In 1854, Pope Pius IX elevated this article of faith to dogma. The feast for this occasion – and at the same time the patron saint of this church – which in the Catholic liturgy is called “Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary” is celebrated annually on December 8th.

I know the area from Squillace Lido to Soverato very well: the problem is the path of the Copanello tunnel up to the crossroads to the right, before the large bridge, to take the old road: crossing the tunnel is very dangerous. some do it, others lift the light bike to jump the gardrail and go sideways, in the middle of debris brambles etc.etc. Why not make an accommodation project? Church of Santissima Immacolata The Chisea della SS. Immacolata is located in the town of Stalettì, a small town in the province of Catanzaro. It is arranged almost parallel to another church, of recent bill and dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, which has inherited its functions since ours is closed to worship and performs other functions, certainly not the one for which it was built, i.e. it is the meeting point of many young people in the country for leisure activities. It has a single nave with a barrel vaulted roof and a square apse with a lowered domed roof. The altar is made of polychrome marble with the statue of the Immaculate Madonna in the center. On the right there are two doors: one to the sacristy and one to the bell tower. The choir is located above the entrance and can be reached via a small staircase. The church takes light from three side windows plus one over the main door. Mura Antica Chiesa, Staletti Ruins Mother Church, Staletti The mother church of Stalettì, Catanzaro, has long been the reference point of the city's religious life: built in the sixteenth century in the heart of the city, now the historical center, it was dedicated to Santa Maria del Suffragio. Currently, unfortunately, after the earthquakes of 1783 and 1832, it is largely unusable and reduced to a ruin, with the exception of the front pronao and some structures that have remained. Restoration work would in fact be very complex due to the specific features of the territory and the structure itself. Its surrounding wall is irregularly shaped and has been shaped by the passage of time and the attacks of art thieves and vandals. However, there is a beautiful sixteenth-century portal with ornate half-columns supporting an architrave with a broken tympanum: also interesting are the limestone and granite decorations that are present on the entire structure. Loopholes have also been identified for long-range weapons, suggesting that the building was previously used for its consecration as a military building or, in any case, of a political nature due to its location at the old entrance to Stalettì. Chiesa della Madonna del Rosario, Staletti Rosary Church The Rosary Church has a single nave with an apse separated from the rest of the building by a masonry triumphal arch and covered by a semi-dome. The entire complex takes light from seven windows, three on each side, plus one above the main entrance, while two more picocle others are in the abyss. Behind the main altar, on the left, you enter the sacristy. The church does not present any particular reasons of artistic interest, in fact it appears quite poor, both in its essential lines and in its decorative motifs.
