The passage of time has left little of the medieval church building in Barnewitz. The simple and not too large rectangular hall was already heavily redesigned in the baroque period. The outer walls were raised and the windows enlarged, which now received segmented arches. Its irregular fieldstone masonry, which points to a construction in the 14th or 15th century, disappeared under a layer of plaster. Massive buttresses were added to the corners to the east. Nothing remains of the original portals. In 1944 the church burned down and was rebuilt in the years 1967-1974. A destroyed baroque half-timbered tower was replaced by today's small slated roof turret in the west. The medieval masonry is clearly visible, especially to the west. In the east, partially covered by ornamental vegetation, there is a small pointed-arched three-window group in a segmented arch screen - certainly a preserved detail from the original building.

A special feature is the octagonal helm on the square west tower.
