Beautiful pond with island. Reachable in a few minutes on foot from Walldorf. Lots of viewpoints on the lake and an easily walkable path around the lake.

Very popular excursion destination, as it can be reached on foot in a few minutes from the car park at the Jagdschloss Mönchbruch. Information boards on fauna and flora. The nutria already mentioned above can usually be seen.

The Mönchbruch-Mühle is a hotel, restaurant, beer garden and a central starting point for tours in the surrounding forests. Behind the parking lot, the Gerätehsbach and Gundbach flow together and are called Schwarzbach from there.

1129 was the first documented mention of the large wetland, at that time still under the name "Fulenbruch". On March 9, 1211, Eberhard Waro donated the then 720 acres of marshy land to the monks of the Hassloch monastery estate, which belonged to the Eberbach monastery in the Rheingau. They used the area for cattle grazing and for wood supply, and it is from them that the popular name "Monk's Quarry" comes from. From 1988, the former landgrave's palace became an emergency camp for asylum seekers. In the following 6 years well over 12,000 people find a home here. Due to the changed asylum legislation and the associated decline in asylum seekers, the home is no longer needed and used as a dormitory for workers until it is closed. Today there are modern hotel rooms and the registry office in the castle wing, which - together with the adjacent castle park - can be used for wedding celebrations.

Very beautiful lake, with all kinds of animals. Of course also nitrias, which are still fed here despite the ban. As nice as they are to look at, it is and will remain an invasive species that is dangerous for the local fauna.

Hello! The photos are from the Walldorf Gundwiesensee. This lake was built in the 1960s by members of the Walldorf fishing club and has been a leased water for the club since then.
