Johannes Nepomuk is considered the bridge saint and patron of the secret of confession. The relatively large statue stands on the Nepomuk Bridge, which is beautifully decorated with flowers in summer. The statue was destroyed when the bridge was blown up in 1945 and was replaced by a reconstruction made of artificial stone in 1980. The Nepomuk Bridge and parts of the city center are also open to cyclists. In 1980, a concrete bridge was erected over the Ems instead of an earlier pier bridge. The pedestrian bridge connects the western and eastern parts of the city center. A true-to-original copy of the figure of Saint Nepomuk was placed on the bridge to replace a sculpture that was destroyed in World War II.
