I was lucky enough to marvel at more, less, or all of the viaduct as the clouds drifted by, changing the view every second. It's truly impressive what they built back then, given the circumstances. 👌🏻 There's a picnic area above.

Great view of the Riedgletscher and the Nadelgrat, a cozy hut and an incredibly friendly hut team! The hut access was renovated in 2023 and is now marked in red and white and no longer leads over the glacier.

The Bietschtal Bridge 🌉 is an impressive engineering structure along the Lötschberg south ramp. It spans the Bietschtal at a height of 78 meters and offers spectacular views of the valley and the surrounding Alps 🏔️. The path to the bridge usually starts from Ausserberg train station 🚉 and leads through picturesque landscapes and historic Suonen (irrigation channels) 🌿. The hike is about 2 hours long and of moderate difficulty.

The hike along the Lötschberg south ramp from Hohtenn to Brig is an impressive experience with spectacular views. The route is about 23 kilometers long and takes about 6 to 7 hours. The trail leads along the historic railway line and offers breathtaking views of the Rhone Valley and the Valais Alps. The Bietschtal Bridge and the tunnels are particularly worth seeing. The trail is well marked and offers numerous rest areas.

The Südrampen-Trail is one of the most beautiful single trails in Valais. At this point, it leads directly past the impressive Lugelkin Viaduct. The view of the formerly single-track viaduct is fantastic. After the expansion to two tracks, it was re-clad with real rubble stones to preserve the original look.

Boarding From Gasenried or Grächen through a larch forest to the “Alpja” (Schafalp). In early summer, thousands of alpine roses bloom around the alp! From the Alpja, continue on the marked hiking trail to the Ried glacier. The easy, flat glacier crossing is marked with reflective poles every 20 meters (only if the hut is manned). Then the path climbs again briefly until you arrive at the hut. Please inquire about the conditions for crossing the glacier, bring crampons! Parking spaces at the entrance to Gasenried. There are 4 places available, which are reserved for the guests of the Bordierhütte. The hut has 44 beds with duvets, please bring a sleeping bag. REGISTRATION MANDATORY http://bordierhuette.ch/

The Bietschtalbrücke is certainly another highlight of the hike. You can see very nicely how they torment the heavy freight trains up the 28 ‰ steep ramp. Unfortunately, the express trains have disappeared since the tunnel existed. Unfortunately, the sequence of trains is no longer so close.

Another highlight of the hike is the hiking trail along the Suonen (water pipes). There are historical still existing water pipes in the canton of Valais. They are particularly easy to see here on the Lötschberg southern ramp.

Wonderful to reach via the BLS-Südrampe hiking route. Incidentally, there is also a model from the Faller company for model railways.
