Here, northbound hikers are presented with an alternate: hiking north or south along the Florida Trail. The southern route follows Florida State Highway 100 through small towns and spans a little over 20 miles. The northern route stays wild, passing through Etoniah Creek State Forest, Belmore Wildlife Management, and the Old Head Branch State Park area and past Lowry Lake. This route is longer, spanning 37.2 miles.

Like many lakes in this part of Florida, Lake Kerr has clean, clear water. It's shallow with an average depth of 10 feet, but the deeper areas can be over 25 feet. It's a popular spot for boating, fishing, and swimming.

Silver Glen Springs Recreation Area is centered around the eponymous springs and the nearby Lake George. In addition to the multitude of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling, the area is also a valuable archeological site; with evidence showing human habitation going back at least 5,000 years.

Juniper Springs is a beautiful recreation area in the Ocala National Forest. There is ample opportunity for hiking, biking, swimming, camping, and more. If you have the time this is a great area to explore.

This lake is behind Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church, hence the name. Though there is no public access to the lake you can get views of it as you ride through Lynne, Florida.

There are a handful of bridges that you'll cross as you ride along the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail. This particular section of trail passes through a lot of wetland and marshy areas, and this bridge offers great views while you ride.
