The Alimentarium is located in the old Nestlé headquarters, a neoclassical building on the shores of Lake Geneva. This building dates back to 1867 and now provides an inspiring environment for the museum. The core of the museum programme is the permanent exhibition “Food – The Essence of Life”. This exhibition places visitors at the heart of the message and invites them to think about their bodies, their environment and their social circle. It offers valuable information about nutrition, health and culture. The Alimentarium organises various activities, such as culinary classes, workshops for adults, children, groups, companies and schools. You can cook together and learn more about nutrition and food history. There are also special school activities to make students aware of the history, culture, science and technology behind our food. A futuristic escape game called AL2049 immerses you in a world of food and nutrition. A unique experience for visitors who enjoy a challenge. The Alimentarium also has a beautiful garden overlooking Lake Geneva. This garden is an integral part of the museum scenography and offers an idyllic location to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

ONE OF THE OLDEST ALPINE HOUSES IN THE CANTON OF FREIBURG La Buvette du Gros-Plané consists of a chalet built at the beginning of the 19th century, making it one of the oldest alpine huts in the canton of Fribourg. Burned down in 1921, the chalet was completely rebuilt a year later, in 1922. For 43 years, Mrs. Progin and her husband have been running the diner inherited from Mr. Progin's great-grandparents. In fact, for more than 4 generations, visitors have come to taste the specialties of the Gruyère region, prepared in an artisanal way by the Progin family. With their own cattle, they produce their own milk and make various traditional homemade cheeses such as Sérac, Gruyère d'alpage and Vacherin.
