The Blitzenreuter Lake District has been known as an ecologically valuable area for many years. As early as 1924, the central raised bog core and its non-peat-drained surroundings were protected as a protected forest. In 1937, other parts of the area were designated as a nature reserve (Dornacher Ried with Häckler Ried, Häcklerweiher and Buchsee). Very attractive even in winter.

The information point is open on Saturdays and Sundays from April to October (https://www.bad-saulgau.de/tourismus/natur/naturthemenpark-bad-saulgau/infopunkt). You can find out a lot about the local animals and much more. There is a bio-toilet opposite (fees apply).

Large pond on the way

Great nature theme park that is not only interesting for the little ones. A nice ROUND with children and ideal for strollers. And if you come at the right time of year there are blackberries along the way.

Here above Rickertsreute, between the Deggenhauser Tal and Illmensee, is the glacier gate, marked by a work of art. The view up here is wonderful, although it is also very strenuous when you come up from the valley, from about 500 meters to about 690 meters above sea level.
