エッシェフェルダー池は、多様な鳥類の生息地として機能するユニークな文化的景観です。かつて修道士たちが漁業目的で造った池は、多くの、一部絶滅危惧種の鳥類にとって重要な繁殖地および休息地となっています。100種類以上の鳥類がここに生息しています。その多くは、たとえばズグロカモメ、カワセミ、ミミカイツブリ、そして非常に珍しいノドグロコマドリなど、絶滅危惧種のレッドリストに掲載されています。

The Elisabeth Spring is located in the Leinawald towards Penig near the Nobitz Aviation Museum. During GDR times, it was somewhat neglected due to the settlement of the Soviets. In 2021, it was brought back to life by an interest group and foresters. It can be visited 24 hours a day. The water from the spring is drinkable, but despite repeated analysis, it is not yet classified as drinking water.

The saying on the edge of the pool "Today I am in Meissen, Thuringia and Pleißen - You will be as happy as the Swabians at Lucke" is a reminder of the battle of 1307. On the pedestal with the Wettin shield sits a 1.80 m high lion, the heraldic animal of the ruling house. It symbolizes the courage and indomitable strength that characterized the victorious Frederick the Free. The building is made mostly of Würzburg shell limestone.
