There are two beautiful caves to admire here. Above them is the Bastei viewpoint with the Trompeterfelsen rock.

Helene was named after the Mecklenburg princess who was born on January 24, 1814, at Ludwigslust Castle as the daughter of Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Ludwig of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Caroline of Saxe-Weimar. Helene was thus a granddaughter of Grand Duke Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. The princess received a very good education and also studied philosophy for two years in Jena.

Right next to the cycle path is the confluence of the Orla and Saale. There is a small hut with a table and two benches with space for about 6-8 cyclists (or hikers).

There are two beautiful caves to admire here. Above them is the Bastei viewing point with the Trompeterfelsen.

The Orla is about 35 km long and flows into the Saale here at this well-maintained place.

Does anyone actually go down there?

The white sand extracted from the caves was used as grit in the living rooms of the Middle Ages and was later used industrially.

Internet listed as a source of drinking water, but unfortunately no corresponding sign on site.
