The small village, probably founded in the 12th century by the Lobdeburg family, was an active fief of the Abbots of Saalfeld and was repeatedly deserted. Since the 16th century, only two houses were occupied as forest and field supervisors, and not always. In 1850, the last family left the isolated place.

The circular route is very beautiful and well signposted. But you can also spontaneously take a different route; there are many good paths here and it is almost impossible to get lost. There are a few places to sit and rest at the first large pond with the stilt house, but there are a few at the other ponds.

a very beautiful and interesting circular route around the pond area, definitely recommended

A famouser view after a long climb. In wet weather, sturdy shoes are absolutely necessary, as the paths are sometimes quite narrow and rocky (danger of slipping).

This house pond house is a very beautiful museum. Also suitable for children. Take a look. Open from April to October on Sundays and public holidays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., in October also on Saturdays.
