A nice overview of the leash. Directly behind the Bothmer mill. Unfortunately, I couldn't get directly to the water at this point because the shore was fenced off with pasture fences.

After the Wolfsstein, the path was completely rumpled up in places by the wild boars

Every time I come by, I look forward to the blooming and fragrant hedges. There are also beautiful hedges south of Ahlden.

Since 2016 this place is part of the so-called wolf tour! On the Mittelweser Touristik website there are also 2 tour suggestions from the north and south routes. https://mittelweser.nolis-navigator.de/tour-916000037-4700.html

3月 30, 2020, Heathland in the Forest (Schwedenschanze)
A small remnant of heather is still available. This heath lies hidden in the middle of the forest. A path leads through the middle.

The wolf stone is reminiscent of a wolf that was killed here. Allegedly, he was responsible for many animals being torn. A memorial stone and a plaque give further details on site.

A small nature reserve in the middle of the forest. Several small moor lakes, one of them relatively close to the path. The others are usually inaccessible.

The small round through the Schwedenschanze can be changed arbitrarily. Here are the forest roads all connected to the mainline and registered at Komoot. The Schwedenschanze is a natural monument and a depression of inland ice dunes. During the Thirty Years' War, such Swedes were often visited in defense of the Swedish soldiers. In this section you can feel nature and smell very close. You can hear no civilization noise and can fully devote to the forest noise.

As a strangler from Lichtenmoor an initially unknown predator is referred to, which is said to have torn in 1948 in Niedersachsen numerous domestic and wild animals around the Lichtenmoor northeast of Nienburg / Weser. The search for the strangler and speculation about which animal it could be, were accompanied by a rapidly growing, in the meantime Germany-wide media interest and led to large-scale, but unsuccessful hunts. A wolf shot dead in August 1948 by a hunter revived the story, which at the time was hardly noticed. [1] Reports of the number of prey killed, killing wounds, and other evidence indicate that most of the cases involved poaching and illegal slaughtering, which was not uncommon in post-war flesh and food rationing. It is striking that the cases that were assigned to the strangler, after the currency reform on 21 June 1948 and a concomitant relaxation on the food market fell sharply. - Source: Wikipedia ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the coat of arms and various club symbols, the wolf's head appears again and again. Of course, this has a historical background. As a "strangler from Lichtenmoor" a wolf is called, which in 1948 around the Lichtenmoor so also in Lichtenhorst was up to mischief. Almost every night sheep, cattle and wild animals of the hitherto unknown "beast" fell victim in the vast heath and moor areas. At that time the population lived in constant fear and concern for their livestock. It was believed that a cougar or a tiger, possibly also a wolverine, was up to mischief there. More than 100 sheep, 65 cattle and lots of wildlife should have the "beast" on their conscience. Since the meat was scarce in the post-war period, it is now believed that many black slaughterings were also charged to the animal. By the appearance of the "beast" it was now easy to cover up. Every day hundreds of men, peasants, hunters and police went hunting for this monster. On June 13th, the most fruitless hunt ever took place in Lower Saxony. It involved 1,500 drivers and 70 hunters, including members of the British military. Source: http://www.lichtenhorst.de/der-wuerger-vom-lichtenmoor.html

Beautiful place with interesting story to the wolf. Stollen tires are not a disadvantage on the way there.
