The Berlin-Hameln cycle path (RBH for short) covers a total distance of 400 km and connects the Weser Uplands (Hameln) with the Brandenburg-Potsdam Havel area (Berlin) and crosses the Leine Uplands, the Hildesheim Börde, the Schöppenstedter Mulde, the Magdeburg Börde, the Elbe meadows, Fläming and Zauche. On the entire route (only) about 2000 meters in altitude have to be mastered (i.e. 5 m per km); there are no extreme climbs. The entire route can therefore be covered in six daily stages at a moderate travel speed. Two basic ideas determine the route: On the one hand, the RBH offers a spacious west-east connection north of the German low mountain range and, in contrast to the European long-distance cycle route R1, avoids significant gradients on the edge of the Harz Mountains. On the other hand, the route has been chosen in such a way that mainly easy to cycle paths away from traffic are used. In Lower Saxony, the RBH is already fully signposted (i.e. between Hamelin and Schöningen with the Schöningen research museum); this is also the case in Saxony-Anhalt (between Hötensleben and Üplingen) and in Brandenburg (between Dippmannsdorf and Lehnin). Another signage is planned. The ADFC-Hildesheim looks after the RBH and makes various maps, geodata and a smartphone app (for Android) available on the homepage, with which the route can be easily understood and navigated. The RBH is of particular interest to people who want to see the beauty of different landscapes away from the big traffic and tourist streams and who are just as interested in the cultural attractions of the cities (Hameln, Hildesheim, Wolfenbüttel, Potsdam) as in the rather quiet but in Despite its diversity, life in the countryside and in its villages is impressive.
