Mecklenburg's thickest beech tree, with a trunk circumference of 8 meters, is dying!

In 2023 and 2024 I interrupted my long bike rides here several times for a few swims. Very clear, beautiful water. You can no longer stand at the end of the jetty. Clean water and the bottom is firm and sandy, small climbing plants and no water lilies. One of the most beautiful lakes in the area, I think.

The Shepherd's Beech is a red beech in the municipality of Dobbin-Linstow in the Rostock district. With a trunk circumference of over 8 meters and a height of 23 meters, it is one of the largest known beech trees in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This remarkable and special landmark in the field was designated a natural monument in 1987 by a resolution of the Güstrow district council. This means that the tree can remain standing in peace.

The faces of these three girls are so cute, I can hardly get enough of them.

After the road the path becomes a bit narrow through a piece of forest. later across a field and again in the forest it runs in two lanes.

With so many lakes, there can sometimes be a “mountain lake”. It made me curious and attracted me. Very beautiful sight, great view of the lake and crystal clear water. It's worth it!

A really impressive tree. But I think many of us are more likely to die like this beech tree.

The Dobbin Shepherd's Beech, a huge beech, is estimated to be 200 years old. Unfortunately, the beech is infected with the smut fungus and will perish from it - too bad!
