Every avenue has some kind of beauty. Linden trees are planted very frequently, and these ones here aren't nearly as old as those in other places. In short, why this particular access road to Annenwalde was chosen as Avenue of the Year 2012 is beyond me.

Like all avenues, this one is quite beautiful, but by no means so stunning that one would immediately start raving about it. There are many more atmospheric and attractive avenues. The award ceremony in 2012 is probably more of a publicity stunt or perhaps due to that. After all, the well-known glass artist Werner Kothe was in town and busy working.

The Franzosenstein On the shores of Lake Lindsee, this memorial stone commemorates the devastation of the Napoleonic Wars. On October 27, 1806, Baron Friedrich Leopold von Hertefeld was forced to hide in the forest for three days as marauding French troops wreaked severe havoc in Liebenberg. The losses in livestock and food, cash and household furnishings, as well as cultural assets such as books and paintings, totaled 24,350 Prussian thalers. His faithful housekeeper, Demoiselle Neumann, later had the memorial stone erected at her own expense.

Beautiful avenue with great photo perspectives in changing lighting conditions

The lake bottom used to be very soft and muddy, but in recent years it has become more solid. Actually, you shouldn't swim in the protected area, even though there are no longer any signs prohibiting it. Riders from the Sarnow Stud often come here on weekends. As a hiker you have very close encounters and the dubious pleasure of sharing this beautiful place with others or strangers. The way here is quite difficult and, above all, the peace and quiet makes up for it.

In the summer of 2021, the more than 300-year-old Silke beech tree fell apart. The fascinating thing, however, is that not all parts have died. Some branches live on and sprout again every spring. And this is still a very special place. In May 2023 it was also completely free to access.
