Other experts, on the other hand, consider the shape to be the outcrop of an upward dome-like intrusion, i.e. the remainder of an igneous melt that pressed into the already solidified volcanic rock. After this subterranean passage was exposed by erosion, platy deposits formed due to pressure relief and weathering. As if through a window into the history of the earth, you can admire the andesite intrusion in cross-section today.
