At 1006.4 m above sea level, the Rainen is the fifth highest mountain in the Swabian Alb. It is located about two kilometers east of Deilingen, in whose area it is also located, and forms a mountain range with the mountains Ortenberg (just below the thousand mark), Montschenloch, Bol and Wandbühl. The Rainen is the northernmost peak of this mountain group and the region of the 10 thousand meters. Unlike Bol and Wandbühl, the Rainen is part of the Albtrauf, so that from the northwest it has a clearly visible steep flank several hundred meters high with scree slopes, which it shares with the Ortenberg. Its elongated summit is covered by a spruce forest, the highest point is marked by a summit marker. The cave can be visited by appointment or on Ascension Day. The climb from the Mühlheim cemetery to the cave takes about 25 minutes. A narrow path leads there. There is a bench in front of the cave. You have a wonderful view of the Danube valley towards Mühlheim - Tuttlingen.

Looks new and stable. To add to the fun, it swings a little at a maximum height of 6m. If you don't dare, the suspension bridge is easy to bypass

There is not much to see of the former castle. The numerous information boards give you a good insight into the history of Hohenberg Castle. Benches with a great view invite you to linger

The cave is open and illuminated once a year on Ascension Day and is a special experience. Except for a few ladders and chains, it is not developed and is a bit more demanding for those who have no cave experience. Some places are very slippery, the chains help there. At the back, a ladder descends several meters almost vertically. In any case, our trousers and jackets had to be put in the washing machine afterwards. But the visit was fun. We know visitor caves well enough, but this cave is different.
