The nature reserve is particularly characterized by several inland dune areas, some of them towering, with a mosaic of extensive, open and vegetation-free sandy areas with more or less lichen-rich silver grass and sand sedge lawns. Nice end to the Alte Aller with a good view from the bridge at the fish ladder.

Very beautiful section of this route and really worth seeing! Other bodies of water called Alte Aller lie to the right of the Aller estuary and the subsequent Weser course and are remnants of Aller courses from a time when the Aller flowed into the Weser much further downstream than today. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alte_Aller

This place is worth a trip

The area is similar to the NSG "Besenhorster Sandberge" west of Geesthacht on the Elbe. In these areas, vegetation-free sandy areas alternate in a mosaic with heath-like terrain and picturesque groups of trees. The type and time of origin are also the same.

Like a small desert landscape in the middle of the green... worth it!
