A highlight of my tour. The last few meters are a nature reserve, however, and cycling is prohibited. It's best to just leave your bikes down by the information boards and climb the last few meters on foot; it's definitely worth it.

Very interesting, the formation of the Ries is well described here and you can clearly see the force in the different rocks. There are also lots of interesting things for children, in certain places you can knock stones or solve a memory game.

The Shepherd's Path combines geological, archaeological and settlement features on a circular hiking trail through nature. It therefore not only offers something for the eye, but also conveys a wide range of knowledge about the connections between nature, geology and people. It begins on the edge of the unique, medieval town of Nördlingen with its walkable city wall. Along the traditional paths of traveling shepherds, event boards provide information about geology, settlement history and the extensive heathland landscapes - typical, very species-rich natural areas of the Riesrand.

Before the 19th century, the gallows of the free imperial city of Nördlingen stood on this hill. From 1834 the height was transformed into a local recreation area. Maximilian of Bavaria married Marie of Prussia here. The mountain owes its current name to this event.
