Beautiful atmospheric place of worship

Beautiful place. Given the lighting conditions I experienced, I wouldn't have been surprised if Siegfried had broken through the undergrowth.

Pagan sacrificial site last probably used as such by the clan of Dietbert, a follower of the Frankish king Clovis.

Small sea of rocks with beautifully moss-covered stones. During the week you have the somewhat mystical atmosphere all to yourself

nice path between the stones. Good to walk, not particularly steep. Also nice for smaller children to climb

Very nice quiet place

An interesting rock formation. In the Odenwald, pagan gods were sacrificed until late in the 5th century. However, since Christianity had already spread widely and the free practice of religion had not yet established itself, individual clans, like that of Dietbert here, looked for secret places of sacrifice. One of them was probably the Götzenstein on a flattened knoll near Ober-Absteinach, which was probably prepared in this way by human hands. Legend has it that after a fire, a Christian used the power of his faith to rescue a child from a burning house.
