The yellow clinker brick building has stood on the Mulde for over 100 years. The former “lace factory Birkigt & Co.” had been producing beautiful textiles since 1907 using English innovative machines, which were sold under the “Plauener Spitze” brand. After 1991, the machines stopped rattling. The ensemble served as a warehouse. After the flood in 2013, youth revived the dilapidated industrial complex. The committed project “Village of Youth” fills the halls with joy of life and strives for self-sustaining youth work that is independently organized by and with young people. A café opens during the summer months. There is a bicycle repair shop, raised beds and a skate park. The rooms are intended to be available for events, musicians and exhibitions. Be careful when descending, there are old fence wire parts in the upper section where you can quickly get stuck (I speak from my own experience 😉)

Here in Liebertwolkwitz, a district of our city that was also incorporated in the 90s, a new play area with a skate bowl, a streetball court and a bike parkour is currently being built. Completion summer 2022.
