The swamp later turns into a mixed forest with ancient trees and the NSG Zarth (Devil's Forest) rightly bears its name. Some of the giant trees appear quite creepy in the twilight of the forest. A simple mind may have believed in demons in earlier times. Always my pleasure; a treat for body, mind and soul and an oasis for flora and fauna.

The swan pond is located in the city park and lies in the southern ring outside the historic city walls of Treuenbrietzen. The park goes back to an initiative by Carl August Pauckert. The son of a master tailor was born in the city on December 6, 1814. After training as a pharmacist, he took over the Adlerapotheke and became a member of the city council. In addition to these activities, his passion was botany; part-time he researched the flora of his region. He designed the city's historic ramparts (the Pauckert-Ring in the 21st century) and had a park laid out. In 1880 he was made an honorary citizen. Pauckert died on June 28, 1885 in Treuenbrietzen. In his memory, the city erected a memorial stone in the park on the 20th anniversary of his death. In December 2004, craftsmen replaced two previously demolished obelisks erected to commemorate Soviet victims. In their place came two granite blocks, each weighing 10 tons. In the fall of 2018, the city began a major redevelopment of the park.

The Jüterbog Wilderness Area was used for military purposes for over 150 years. What remained was a huge, uninhabited, roadless area. Today, it is a nature reserve and provides a habitat for rare species such as the wolf, Bechstein's bat, and hoopoe. The diversity of the wilderness area's landscape ranges from sand dunes, heathland, and pioneer forests in the central area to wetlands and older forests on the outskirts. Along the way, you can discover how nature can develop dynamically without human intervention. The barren sandy soils are being cultivated by grasses, mosses, and lichens. The heathland gradually spreads across the barren ground, providing a habitat for many rare insect and bird species. Without further disturbance, a semi-open landscape can develop, and it doesn't take long for the first small pioneer trees to establish themselves among the heathland. Over the years, the trees steadily grow larger, so that the primeval forests of tomorrow slowly develop in the wilderness area. In wilderness areas, development never ends. Storms, for example, create open spaces in various places where natural growth begins anew. This is what gives wilderness its special character.

The inland dune is located directly in the nature reserve, which is also strictly protected under European law as a flora fauna habitat and SPA bird sanctuary. It is part of the Jüterbog wilderness area. In the entire area there is a clear order to protect nature and guests. The dune is located on a former military training area that was used for more than 150 years. She is loaded with ordnance. A designated hiking trail free of explosive ordnance leads along the dune. The entire wilderness area is home to many rare species such as wolves, Bechstein's bats and hoopoes. So that they have an undisturbed retreat in the wilderness area, we only observe them from the hiking trails. Moving on the dunes, be it on foot, by bike or any other means of transport is therefore not permitted.

From the Keilberg view you have a wonderful view of the Baruth glacial valley and overlook the Jüterbog wilderness area in its vastness and beauty. There are boards ready to inform you about the wilderness development of the area. The area has been declared a nature reserve by the state of Brandenburg. There is a path requirement in accordance with the nature reserve ordinance: https://bravors.brandenburg.de/verordnungen/nsgforstzinna In addition, the area is under European protection as a flora fauna habitat area and (SPA) bird sanctuary. The Brandenburg Natural Landscape Foundation owns a large part of the area and protects it permanently for wilderness development. This means that no more interventions are taking place on a large part of the area. Please be considerate of nature in the wilderness area. This means: - For your own protection, only use the secured hiking trails that have been cleared of ordnance and are marked. - Watch out for hanging branches, dead trees and avoid the area during thunderstorms, strong winds, ice, heavy rain or risk of fire. - Keep your dogs on a leash. If you are interested in wilderness development and want to find out more about the area, then visit our website: www.stiftung-nlb.de We also offer themed tours in our wilderness areas. All information about hiking trails and our online event calendar can be found under the following link: https://www.stiftung-nlb.de/de/wildnis-erleben
