The geo-trail mainly follows the eastern shore of Lake Markkleeberg and Lake Störmthal. 15 thematically separate information columns tell the story of the earth's history and mining.

The GEOPFAD consists of 15 man-sized steles that were erected on the Markkleeberg and Störmthal lakes. Each of them has a special theme and provides an insight into the earth's history, which was revealed during the brown coal mining period in the Espenhain open-cast mine. Stele 16 was erected at the end of 2013 with the completion of the development measures at Gruna Bay. Number 15 is about fish, manatees and sea turtles... Old excavator shovel from the quarry pond & an information board behind it. The area is a nature conservation area & it is forbidden to leave the paths except at two marked bathing areas. You can still see trails leading to the water everywhere.

Good for a bike ride.

In contrast to the other lakes, there is plenty of seating for leisurely breaks.

Beautiful circular route around the lake and can be easily connected to Lake Hainer via the Pleiße cycle path. Unfortunately, the Pleiße cycle path is currently closed on this section, as the new Moveon energy park is being built on the cycle path.
