Former open-cast ore mine from 1843 to 1952, now a local recreation area

Just in terms of the historical background, it's a highlight.

This was not just any old post office robbery. Aside from all the local rhetoric... this place and this event are symbolic of the history of the "hinterland" in the 19th century. The post office robbers who survived their imprisonment were executed in Giessen on October 6, 1824. The Lahnaue nature reserve includes wet meadows and several lakes that were created from former gravel pits. The area has developed into an important resting and transit area for waterfowl. So always stay on the path. If you keep quiet, you have a good chance of spotting some of the shy birds.

If a good and true story is added to a beautiful hiking trail, it is worth a hike!

There is a circular path around the lake, wide enough for oncoming traffic, easy to drive. So you can see the lake from all directions. A part of the circular route is only permitted for pedestrians, is that meant seriously?

Looks more like a ravine. Certainly a good place to rob a stagecoach.
