Around 1900, the three Weißenborn Forest Park ponds were created in connection with the expansion and beautification of the city forest. Initially, they were used for fish farming. With increasing shading due to forest growth, this use proved unprofitable and declined in importance. Today, the ponds are an important habitat for many animal and plant species. With the numerous recreational facilities along their banks, they offer many opportunities for local recreation.
