Around 1900, the three Weißenborn Forest Park ponds were created in connection with the expansion and beautification of the city forest. Initially, they were used for fish farming. With increasing shading due to forest growth, this use proved unprofitable and declined in importance. Today, the ponds are an important habitat for many animal and plant species. It is a coarse-grained biotite granite rock in woolsack weathering. The Quarksteine are a geological natural monument. According to legend, dwarves live in the caves under the Quarksteine. At night, when people were asleep, they got ready for work and ran over to the Leonhardtmühle to grind flour. The miller's wife put soup in front of them every evening. Before daybreak they went back home to the Quarksteine. This went on night after night, year after year, until the millers grew old and died. The new miller's wife was stingy and didn't want to let the dwarves have their soup. To get rid of the dwarves, she oversalted the soup. The dwarves took offense and were not seen since.
