A very attractive route.

I came to the springs via the forest and bee trail. I was amazed at how much this little trail has to offer.

Not only the Wiedtal itself is worth a tour. From there you can turn off at several points up to the Westerwaldhöhen and from there you can ski down charming routes with a great view back into the Wiedtal. It's a bit more strenuous, but it's easy to do, especially for e-bikers, and it's almost a must.

Source system located on the Melchiorweg, which was restored in 2022 by the Eitorf local history association.

The via ferrata remains a bit of a borderline case. Definitely good for practicing and for families. If you are on a longer hike here, it is actually too short and easy to take all the material with you - the result is that some are unsecured (no problem, but probably not in the interests of the community that created it) .

The first via ferrata of this type in the Westerwald was built on the "Hölderstein" in the Grenzbach valley near the Döttesfeld district of the same name. With the financial support of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, represented by the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture, an approx. 300 meter long route was built on the foothills of the Central Rhine Slate Mountains, on which you can climb staples, stirrups, pins, 3 ladders and a bridge has to overcome a height difference of approx. 80 meters. This via ferrata is located directly on the Westerwaldsteig. You can reach the trail from the hiking car park (on the K 127) near Breitscheid via the yellow-marked access route to the Westerwaldsteig. The use of the via ferrata is at your own risk.
