Bridge

After 32 km, the Schutter River flows into the Danube here. It rises near Konstein and initially flows southward through the Urdonautal valley, before leaving this valley to the west near Waldau. Along its course, it feeds an extensive system of water ditches, where numerous mills once provided modest prosperity—a kind of economic stream, which also justifies the monument at the mouth. It's just a pity that the actual mouth consists of a simple sewer pipe.

Very beautiful medicinal plant garden at the museum.

The academic garden was not designed for representational purposes, but for teaching. The plan from 1783 drawn by the gardener Veit Bertele shows this very clearly: the garden was structured like a kitchen garden, with simple rectangular beds. As in a tabular overview, the plants were arranged here according to the applicable botanical system. The tour leads right into an interesting section of the Donau-Auen (European protected area). You will pass an old fort surrounded by an oval moat and standing on an artificial island. There are waterfowl and beavers. Parts of the trail may be flooded after prolonged rainfall. In places, the path narrows to a narrow path, over which fallen trees lie and which is lined on the left and right by vegetation, some of which is tall. Long pants and tops with long sleeves and sturdy shoes are therefore recommended, also because of the many mosquitoes. The atmosphere is jungle-like. You should have very good local knowledge or a working navigation system (battery!), otherwise you can get quite lost.
