scenic alternative to Grubberg - shady, running alongside the Bodingbach, little traffic and moderately steep ✅

Apart from a few reckless motorcyclists, there was relatively little traffic on a Saturday in early July. But I'm not sure if I'll drive over the pass again any time soon - the Ötscher Panorama Road option is much more spectacular in terms of scenery.

Very nice little pass, but also heavily used by motorbikes at the wrong time...ideal for a lap on the panoramic road past the Treffling Falls Nature Park... The Treffling Falls are an insider tip - not as busy as the Ötschergräben, but also SPECTACULAR!

Beautiful route with quite a few meters in altitude. It's worth it!

The Josefsberg is located in the Lower Austrian foothills of the Alps in the middle of the Ötscher Nature Park, high above the Ötschergräben. The B20, probably the best-known connection from St. Pölten to Mariazell, leads through it. On this route, a few kilometers to the east, the Annaberg must also be overcome - the names of the two passes attract many motorcyclists from central Lower Austria, especially at weekends. But mostly there is not much going on and you only enjoy your own pulse beat as musical accompaniment. The pass nestles between the Alpl (1239 m) in the east and the Hocheck (1050 m) in the south-west. A small village of the same name invites you to refreshment. From the top of the pass you have a wonderful view of the Ötscher (1893 m) with the "Rauhen Kamm", its distinctive south-east ridge.

Nice pass not to be underestimated. A little heavy traffic every now and then.
