The Thurytal with its Teufelsfelsen is a natural and restored natural jewel in the Feldaist valley and is one of the most popular sights in Freistadt

The legend says that the devil tried to dam the Feldaist in order to drown the people who had settled along the river with the water. But the giants who lived here wanted to annoy the devil and destroyed the piled-up stones night after night. This enraged him so much that he turned one of the giants into a mighty rock and threw it onto the shore. But the other giant grabbed the devil by the horns and didn't let go again, until finally both of them disappeared with a mighty roar and a stench of sulfur and never appeared again. But the devil's rock is still here today and on some full moon nights there is an eerie rumbling in the area and then it smells of sulfur for days. 🙄
