The black Sulm offers beautiful hiking opportunities in natural surroundings.

Sauerbrunn - Bad Sauerbrunn The words "Sauer" and "Brunn" contained in "Sauerbrunn" undoubtedly indicate a well or a spring. Sauerbrunn is officially certified as a healing spring and is located about 6.3 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Stainz in western Styria at an altitude of about 500 meters. If the visitor drives from Stainz towards the headwaters, idyllic places and hamlets such as Wald in West Styria, Marhof, Trog and Sauerbrunn are driven through while the road climbs uphill. He drove along lush green meadows, freshly spring watercourses and past flower-adorned farmsteads; mostly with a view of the mountain range of the up to 2,140 meter high Koralpe, which is shared by the province of Carinthia and Styria. The last kilometers to the source - located in the middle of the forest - meander quite narrowly, but with sufficient marginal strips where the motorist can easily avoid the oncoming traffic. An idyllic, narrow lane that has not yet been discovered by the authorities to be closed.

Continue on a beautiful forest along the Stainzerbaches, after about 1 hour. can you reach the closed Gasthaus Klugfeitl? Continue to Klugbauer, about 1/4 St., there's the stop, the Hahnhofhütte would also be an option. Departure via Gersdorf to Marhof and back to the starting point.

Because of its outstanding ecological importance, the Black Sulm 2002 was awarded as European Natura 2000 area. In addition, 2 routes of the Black Sulm are also designated as natural monuments. The Schwarze Sulm is also since 1998 a "river sanctuary" according to the then joint campaign of the Ministry of Environment with the WWF.
