Located on Monte della Chiesa (Strickberg in German), the first Stoneman checkpoint represents a popular destination for those who cycle in the area. Furthermore, it is the point where the climb towards the Cornetto di Confine ends.

If you use the 3 Zinnenbahn for the ascent, then my tip is to go over the Klammbachalm (the best Kaiserschmarren in the valley!) and then choose the hiking trail towards Negerdörfer. You then come out directly at the trailhead and save yourself the serpentines on the gravel road to get to the start.

It's better to listen to written comments. This trail was a mistake for me! Not all difficult (S1, S2), but sometimes difficult to find (overgrown) and you had to cross a stream several times. I have never seen so much fresh(!) cow dung on paths. - No chance to dodge everything. 🥴 The path probably dates back to WWI and if it were restored it would certainly be beautiful.

A prohibition sign was simply put up in the lower part. If you then switch to the path via the Helmhanghütte, there is another prohibition sign on the alternative path downhill. I went down there anyway out of desperation because there was no alternative. It was just a piece of road! I find it unreasonable to simply put a prohibition sign in the middle of a route without writing where to go. Apparently cyclists are not wanted here. A pity!

A wide forest path leads to the Leckfeldalm with a fairly moderate incline, the hut is a good place to stop. The road is also easy to drive on by car and so there is a lot of traffic in summer. Again and again you have a beautiful view of Sillian and the mountains opposite.

Depending on where you start the Stoneman, this is the 1,2,3,4, or 5 checkpoint😉. The Leckfeldsattel checkpoint is at 2380m, from here it is not far to the well-deserved break at the Sillianer Hütte. Until then it is 10km uphill with an average of 13%, the magnificent view compensates for all the effort.
