The Uedem High Forest is worth a visit, especially on warm days, as you can always hike in the shade. I was particularly taken with the natural forest cell. A narrow path where you repeatedly had to climb over fallen trees – wildly romantic.

From this place, the Niers and Nette flow together until they confluence with the Meuse.

The Fleuthkuhlen were created in the 18th/19th century by peat mining. The resulting holes quickly filled with groundwater and rainwater. The scenery there is very beautiful.

A place with a very special magic is the Duivelsberg in Berg en Dal (NL). Here in the forest there are hills, ravines and valleys and several unusual places. The yellow route starts at the hiking car park - a 2 km long circular route with a slight incline, which partly runs along the border between Germany and the Netherlands and is therefore called the "Grensroute". In both directions you come to a pancake restaurant. If you keep to the right from the car park, you will soon reach the "Heksendans", a dark pond in a forest clearing. Black water, with green edges, and several dead trees in the area explain why this place is called the "Witches' Dance".
