A special treasure of the Eifel National Park is the open land on the Dreiborn Plateau. Here, there are grasses, broom, hawthorn bushes, and many animal species that need precisely this. The endangered skylark, for example, lives and breeds in the open landscape. That's why it's so important that we humans stay exclusively on marked trails and do not disturb the breeding grounds of sensitive species off the trails 🐣. Over time, the open land becomes overgrown with shrubs and isolated trees 🌳. To prevent the open land from disappearing completely, certain areas are mowed late in the year (after the breeding season). According to international criteria (IUCN Category II), such "management" is permitted in the long term on up to 25% of a national park's area. The most important "rules" for protecting nature: Stay on official trails, do not make fires or make noise, keep dogs on leashes, and take your trash with you. Thank you for your understanding! 💚

The Mühlensee is a retention basin, but is also intended to be used for recreational purposes. At the moment, however, the lake appears to belong to a fishing club.

There is a large playground and a large beer garden in the mill park. Great for a break.
