Large pond on the way

Absolutely beautiful natural paradise for the various fish and also the bird island is worth a visit. Bringing binoculars is recommended. There are beautiful paths around the lakes for hiking or cycling.

The perfect place to take a break with benches and wonderful peace

From the tower's observation deck, you have a magnificent 360° view of the reed bed. The tower features numerous wooden statues of local animals. There's also a small room with information panels at the bottom right of the tower base.

Several signposted hiking trails and a reed nature trail with information boards lead through the area known to the locals as Pfrunger Ried. The view from the Bannwaldturm is also very beautiful; it got its name because the surrounding forest is known as Bannwald for historical reasons. And the best thing: the Bannwaldturm can be climbed free of charge at any time. However, it can only be reached by hiking, most easily from the car park near the country road from Ostrach towards Laubach. The path to the tower is signposted. It's amazing that the birches grow in the swamp moor like that, since they don't really like the direct water.

Since 2016, the Bannwaldturm in the Ostrach district has offered a 360° panorama and insights into the unique moor landscape of the Pfrunger-Burgweiler-Ried. The tower stands at the intersection of the Bannwald "Tisch", "Oberen Schnöden" and "Unteren Schnöden". To the east, a newly created moor stream meanders through renaturalized areas on which robust Galloway cattle sometimes graze and which serve as a breeding and resting area for many birds. You always have to be considerate of pedestrians, then it works and there is no trouble, that's the only way it works, like everything in life. But worth seeing at any time of the year.
