In 1775, Lorenz Spinner, the innkeeper at the time, and his wife Catarina built the St. Lawrence Chapel in Bad Sulzbach. A year later, in 1776, Mathias Edel cast the accompanying bell in Strasbourg. Over the following decades, the chapel's structural condition deteriorated increasingly, eventually necessitating a comprehensive renovation.
