Very, very beautiful park

Beautiful and quite large park, unfortunately the Forrest Gump Bench is no longer there.

This historic square was established in 1815 to honor the Battle of Chippewa during the War of 1812. In its heart stands a statue of General James Oglethorpe, the colony's founder, who was both a military leader and a champion of social reform. It's also famously known as “the Forrest Gump square” due to its appearance in the movie, where the main character sits on a bench and recounts his life story over a box of chocolates. The scene was filmed on the square's north side with Oglethorpe in the background, using a unique bench brought in for filming. It's a beautiful location with majestic live oaks dripping with Spanish moss and plenty of benches to sit and take in the scenery, especially after a long ride.

Lake Mayer is a wonderful location that offers a wide range of outdoor activities and is home to plenty of waterfowl, including geese, ducks and blue herons. There is a fantastic paved trail around its perimeter with a fitness course and an adjacent padded running track, perfect for running loops with the option to get some extra exercise.

Whitemarsh Preserve is a beautiful 1,000-acre nature preserve and a haven for diverse wildlife, including foxes, deer, and turtles. The preserve has six miles of well-maintained trails, with the outer loop most popular with runners, hikers, and dog walkers. It is a fantastic place to get in a short jog or do some speed work.

The bench from the film never existed here, it was purely a film prop (it's in the museum)!

Lake Mayer is a lovely place to hike in Savannah, with a paved loop around a tranquil lake and some dirt trails for more fun. It’s a free and fabulous park for everyone. It also known as a place where Mammoth teeth were found.
