Cruisy and fast rolling, suitable for all levels.

One of my favourite climbs full stop. A good gradient for the most part allowing you to get into a little rhythm with the odd rocky section to keep you on your toes!

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve spans over 30,000 acres, with over 230 miles of trails; it is the largest urban preserve in the country. It is an outdoor enthusiast playground for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, or simply a place to connect with nature. Most trailheads are easily accessible, and entry into this beautiful desert landscape preserve is free.

Sidewinder Trail is popular with mountain bikers but you will find hikers and runners using it as well. While not too technical, the trail earns an intermediate rating due to the punchy climbs. As with all the trails around Phoenix, shade is hard to find, so be sure to bring plenty of water and take breaks.

Lance's Trail is a great warmup. The path is smooth and not difficult at all.

Not an easy trail but not impossible either, it fits perfectly with a blue rating. Some might struggle with the climb, or the rocks, but most should be able to ride this trail if they pick their lines carefully. It's also the first stage of the Cave Creek Cactus Classic mountain bike race, so if you are interested in racing you can test yourself on a competitive trail.

When you reach the switchbacks further up the mountain, you know why the trail is called Alpe d‘Huez.
